Custom Fire Doors
For many years, our clients would ask us to design and build custom fire-rated doors and frames for their projects. At the time, the industry-norm was to outsource the fire-rated doors to a certified fire door company.
There were very few companies that could build these doors to our quality standards. We were continually running into problems including: late delivery, incorrect sizing or machining, subpar craftsmanship, and damages from shipping.
In 2010, we went through the difficult certification process required to manufacture our own fire-rated doors and frames. This allows us to provide our clients with any high-quality doors they demand for their projects. South Shore Millwork is quickly becoming one of the highest quality manufacturers of custom wood fire-rated doors in the United States.
Flush or Stile & Rail Fire Doors
Builders, architects, and designers experience design constraints due to limited choices available by mass-produced, production-line assembled fire-rated doors and frames. South Shore Millwork can work almost any custom design feature into our fire rated doors.
These doors are carefully designed and engineered to perfectly match any other non-rated doors; allowing us to provide quality doors for the entire project. Doors are offered in both paint-grade MDF and stain-grade wood construction. We even have the ability to integrate metal and glass.

FAST LEAD TIMES
We manufacture custom fire-rated wood doors and frames with some of the quickest lead times in the industry. While other manufacturers typically take a minimum of 6 weeks, South Shore Millwork offers both standard lead times and a quick-ship program to meet tight construction schedules. Our fire-rated doors can be shipped anywhere in the world and installation services are available upon request.
FULL-SERVICE EXPERIENCE
We provide a full-service experience for our custom fire-rated door projects. This includes design, engineering, project management, fabrication, finishing, delivery, and installation. South Shore Millwork can provide you with a complete set of shop drawings and a hardware schedule. From design to installation, we’ll handle all aspects of your custom fire-rated door projects.
FINISHING SERVICES
We offer full priming or finishing services for all of our products. Shop finishing allows sealing all six sides of the doors before being hung onsite. South Shore Millwork prides itself on our high-quality finishes and our finishing department is experienced in a vast array of products including polyesters, urethanes, varnishes, lacquers, Italian finishes, and more. We also provide many types of specialty finishes including sandblasting, wire brushing, glazing, high gloss buffed finishes, oil and waxed finishes.
1 3/4″ FIRE-RATED DOORS
While the industry standard has been to only offer higher fire ratings with a thicker door, we have specially engineered our fire-rated doors to maintain your design in a standard 1 3/4″ thickness for up to a 90-minute fire rating. This way you can maintain design consistency throughout your residential and commercial project without sacrificing safety or style. With South Shore Millwork’s custom fire-rated doors, you don’t need to jump to the 2-1/4” thickness.

Products bearing the Warnock Hersey (WH-ETL) Mark indicate compliance to relevant building codes, association criteria, and product safety and performance standards.
